About this person

Chloe Coscarelli is an American vegan chef, cookbook author and entrepreneur. She became known after winning the television competition Cupcake Wars with vegan cupcakes and subsequently built a career focused on making plant-based cuisine accessible to a broad audience.

She was born on 14 October 1987 in Los Angeles and grew up in Pacific Palisades. She is the daughter of film director Don Coscarelli. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and, after an internship at the vegan restaurant Millennium in San Francisco, continued at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York, where she developed her culinary specialisation.

On Cupcake Wars, she became the first vegan to win a televised culinary competition. In 2017, Forbes included her in its 30 Under 30 list. She also worked with Whole Foods on vegan holiday meals and with Club Med to expand the vegan offerings at its resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean.

In 2015, she helped open the vegan chain By Chloe in New York’s West Village. The chain gradually expanded into other cities, but Coscarelli left the company in 2017 following a dispute with her business partner. In 2024, she returned to the original location on Bleecker Street with a new vegan restaurant, CHLOE.

She is the author of Chloe's Kitchen, Chloe's Vegan Desserts, Chloe's Vegan Italian Kitchen and Chloe Flavor. Her cookbooks have repeatedly appeared in selections of notable vegan titles, and in 2020 she and Isa Chandra Moskowitz received the Favourite Vegan Chef award in the Veggie Awards poll.
