About the certification
The BIO label is used for products originating from organic farming, and their production must comply with rules established by Czech and European regulations. For organic food, inspections cover cultivation, animal husbandry, processing and the use of certain substances during production.
The Czech Republic uses the national BIO mark, known as the biozebra, bearing the words “Organic Farming Product”. Packaged organic foods certified in the Czech Republic and intended for the Czech market must carry this mark. The label also includes the code of the relevant inspection organisation, in a format such as CZ-BIO-xxx.
Packaged organic foods also display the European organic-production logo, known as the Euro-leaf — a green symbol made up of stars in the shape of a leaf. Its use is governed by Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council. The European organic label generally also includes the code of the inspection organisation and information on the origin of the agricultural ingredients.
European labelling
Organic production restricts the use of synthetic pesticides and industrial fertilisers, establishes rules for the treatment of animals and does not permit the use of genetically modified organisms under organic-production rules.
