Ricky Martin is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actor regarded as one of the key figures in Latin pop. His work encompasses Latin pop, dance music, reggaeton and salsa.
He was born in San Juan on 24 December 1971. He joined the group Menudo at the age of twelve and began developing a solo career in 1991.
The songs María, La Copa de la Vida and Livin' la Vida Loca brought him an international breakthrough. He has sold more than seventy million records and won two Grammy Awards, five Latin Grammy Awards and numerous other honours.
He advocates for LGBT rights and works to combat human trafficking. In 2004, he founded the Ricky Martin Foundation, which focuses on raising awareness and fighting this crime.
