Michael Eisner is an American businessman and media executive who led The Walt Disney Company as chairman and chief executive officer from 1984 to 2005. He was previously president of the film studio Paramount Pictures.
Under his leadership, Disney's animation studios returned to success with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. This period is known as the Disney Renaissance and marked the company's major return as a leading player in the film industry.
Eisner expanded Disney's media portfolio to include ABC, a stake in ESPN and the rights to the Muppets. He also led investments in theme parks in the United States, Europe and Asia and created the animated series Glenn Martin, DDS after leaving Disney.
