Method Man, born Clifford Smith Jr., is an American rapper, record producer and actor. He rose to fame as a member of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan and as one half of the duo Method Man & Redman.
He was born on 2 March 1971. His first solo album, Tical, was released in 1994 and reached number four on the Billboard 200. His collaboration with Mary J. Blige on I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By won a Grammy Award.
Alongside music, he has developed an extensive acting career. He has appeared in the films Belly, How High, Garden State, The Wackness, Red Tails and Keanu, and in the television series Oz, The Wire, The Deuce and Power Book II: Ghost.
His stage name refers to the 1979 Hong Kong film Method Man. He built upon the success of Wu-Tang Clan in both music and acting, becoming one of the collective's most prominent members.
