Jiddu Krishnamurti was an Indian spiritual thinker, speaker and writer. He was born on 11 May 1895 and died on 17 February 1986.
As a child, he was taken in and raised by members of the Theosophical Society for the role of the prophesied World Teacher. In 1929, he turned away from the Theosophical movement and dissolved the Order of the Star in the East, which had formed around him.
For the rest of his life, he spoke to individuals and groups around the world. He emphasised that “truth is a pathless land” and rejected the following of doctrines, disciplines, teachers, gurus and authorities, including himself.
He gained wider recognition in the 1950s following the publication of The First and Last Freedom. Through non-profit foundations, his supporters continue to operate schools based on his educational philosophy and publish his lectures and writings.
