Jermaine Dupri is an American record producer, rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur and DJ, born on 23 September 1972 in Asheville, North Carolina. He became involved in music as a child and played a major role in the development of Atlanta’s hip-hop and R&B scene.
He founded the record label So So Def Recordings, which was associated with the careers of artists such as Kris Kross, Xscape, Da Brat, Bow Wow and Dem Franchize Boyz. He produced recordings for Mariah Carey, Usher, Janet Jackson and other musicians. He won a Grammy Award for co-writing the song We Belong Together.
He is vegan and, in a PETA campaign, encouraged fans to reduce their meat consumption with the slogan “Feel the beets. Lose the meats.”
