J. B. S. Haldane was a British-Indian scientist who worked in physiology, genetics, evolutionary biology and mathematics. His use of statistics in biology made him one of the founders of Neo-Darwinism and population genetics.
He was born on 5 November 1892. He worked at the University of Cambridge, the Royal Institution and University College London. He moved to India in 1956, became an Indian citizen in 1961 and worked at the Indian Statistical Institute until his death.
He formulated the primordial soup theory for the chemical origin of life, contributed to mapping genes for haemophilia and colour blindness, and proposed numerous ideas related to in vitro fertilisation, cloning and evolution. He died on 1 December 1964 and donated his body for medical research.
