Jordi Casamitjana is a Catalan zoologist, author and animal rights activist. He was born in Barcelona and has worked professionally in animal research and campaigns for their protection. In the United Kingdom, he also became known for a legal dispute concerning the protection of ethical veganism.
He has worked for animal protection organisations and participated in investigations and campaigns against the use of animals. In an employment dispute, his case led to a ruling that ethical veganism can be protected as a philosophical belief under British equality law.
He is the author of Ethical Vegan: A Personal and Political Journey to Change the World and The Vegan Odyssey. His writing addresses veganism, species discrimination and the relationship between human activity and animals’ lives.
