Steven Wilson is an English musician, singer, songwriter and producer. He gained greatest recognition as the founder and principal creative figure of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. His work ranges across progressive rock, psychedelia, electronica, metal and art pop.
He was born on 3 November 1967 in Kingston upon Thames. He played guitar and keyboards from childhood and began recording his own music at home. He founded Porcupine Tree in 1987, originally as a fictional band, but gradually developed it into a real group with an extensive discography and international audience.
Alongside his work with Porcupine Tree, he has released numerous solo albums and participated in No-Man, Bass Communion, Blackfield and Storm Corrosion. As a producer and remix engineer, he has also created new spatial mixes of albums by King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes, Tears for Fears and other artists.
